ACTIVITY 1

Read through and discuss poster 3 and write the key messages on the whiteboard.

Ask the students to create a comic strip that supports one of the key messages the students have suggested over the last 2 lessons. There are 12 sections on their sheet. An 8 strip cartoon is ideal to get a message across. If they would like to do more than one, they can. If they need to use more than 12 squares they can.

If the students struggle to think of how to set up their comic strip, role play some situations where a student says no to soft drink and tells their friends why.

Draw an 8- 12 framed comic strip that promotes saying no to soft drink and sugary drinks, including sports drinks.

ACTIVITY 2

Teach the students the song and have them sing along.waterbottle_01

ACTIVITY 3

Ask them to suggest other lines to the song using the facts on the Freak You Out Facts – soft drink Posters 1 – 3teeth_01

e.g.

If you drink less juice

Then you’re surely not a goose

Rinse your teeth with milk

Then they’ll be smooth as silk

Ask the students for suggestions in how you could let the rest of the school know the key messages about sugary drinks.

They may come up with some of the following which could be completed as a follow up lesson:

1) Record the students singing the song – play at lunch time or before the school bell each day

2) Present the song at the school assembly

3) Put the words to the song up at the canteen

4) In the front office put up a big 3D display of posters or artwork or comic strips

5) Select some comic strips to put into the school newsletter.
