Community Engagement

Community Engagement

Jimmy Little Foundation employs a “Whole of Community” approach when working in remote communities. All key stakeholders and organisations working in the area are engaged to help reinforce the message of “Good Tucker – Long Life!”. These include:

  • Elders and Traditional Owners
  • Local Councils
  • Government and non-government agencies
  • Health and community services
  • Stores and schools

The Jimmy Little Foundation secured funding from Medicines Australia for “The Purple Bus” a mobile renal dialysis unit based in Alice Springs that is managed and managed by the Western Desert Nganampa Walytja Palyantjaku Tjutaku Aboriginal Corporation (WDNWPT). The truck allows people to go home for short periods of time and dialyse in their community. Medicines Australia also funded the Thumbs Up! Program from 2010 – 2012. Thumbs Up! delivers preventative messages to young people and communities throughout remote Australia to fight the high incidence of chronic diseases like diabetes and kidney failure, so much more prevalent in Indigenous Australians.
