Thumbs Up! can offer a tailored media training course, delivered ‘in-community’, offering local people the opportunity to gain a VET Certificate II in Creative Industries (Media).
The course is delivered by a qualified trainer/assessor in partnership with Batchelor Institute and gives community members a practical skill set, enabling creation of high quality content that can be used for radio and TV broadcasts, as well as online media channels.
It’s often difficult for indigenous community members to acquire this kind of training because of the need to travel large distances to the training facility. Thumbs Up! Media Training brings group based training into the community, where locals can feel comfortable with learning in a familiar environment, supported by family and friends.
The Thamarrurr Development Corporation and Remote Jobs and Community Programs through the Dept of Prime Minister and Cabinet granted Thumbs Up! the funds to conduct the media course in the community of Wadeye (Port Keats) NT in the first half of 2016.
